What is Project 7?

Project 7 is the name for the Economic Development Initiative for Van Horn, Texas. Project 7 will strengthen the economy and improve the quality of life for the people of Van Horn while vigilantly preserving the inherent values of community that distinguish this small town, the crossroads of the Texas Mountain trail. Achieve this by:

  • maintaining an astute, opportunistic stance
  • employing sound, integrative and sustainable tourism strategies
  • forming micro-enterprises and technology startups
  • creating and fomenting Van Horn's entrepreneurial culture
  • upholding the small community values cherished by its citizens
  • leveraging technology for the benefit of its citizens and guests
  • inspiring leadership and innovation among its citizens

Who is behind Project 7?

The Van Horn Economic Development Corporation led by Jeff McCoy contracted with AdventGX, a tourism strategy and technology solutions firm, to develop and implement a comprehensive, sustainable economic development strategy that leverages Van Horn’s abundant natural and historical assets.

When did Project 7 start and when will it be completed?

Project 7 officially started with the commencement of the Phase II Implementation of the Van Horn Economic Development Strategy in June of 2005. Shortly thereafter, the project team developed the formal mission for the project and timeline which extends over approximately 7 years.

Where is Project 7 taking place?

Project 7 is being conducted in Van Horn, Texas, located 200 miles east of El Paso at the crossroads of the Texas Mountain Trail.

Who is leading this project?

Project 7 is directed by the project board, including Jeff McCoy, executive director of the Van Horn Economic Development Corporation; Rebecca Brewster, Van Horn city administrator; Larry Simpson, editor of the Van Horn Advocate; and Joan Tatge, project manager and director of communications for AdventGX. Project Team members include Jose Quintana, president of AdventGX; Dr. Andrew Skadberg, chief knowledge officer of AdventGX and Lindsey Hafner, communications coordinator with AdventGX.

Who is paying for this project?

Van Horn Economic Development Corporation contracted with AdventGX to develop the strategy for and implement a comprehensive economic and tourism development strategy. As part of the project, AdventGX is supporting Van Horn in the process of raising funds needed to execute the project.
